Charles Y. Yu
MD, MSc, FPCP, FPCCP
Dr. Charles Y. Yu is the Vice Chancellor for Research and a Professor at the College of Medicine of the De La Salle Medical Health and Sciences Institute. He is a recognized expert on Tuberculosis and is part of various tuberculosis initiatives such as WHO DOTS Expansion Committee, PPMD Subgroup, Global Alliance for TB Drug Development Stakeholders Association, and the International Union Against Tuberculosis (IUATLD) TB Education Working Group.
Dr. Yu graduated from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 1978 and pursued further studies in UP Manila. He received his Doctorate degree in Medicine in 1982, completed his residency in Internal Medicine in 1986, Fellowship training in Pulmonary Medicine in 1987 at the University of the Philippines - Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH), and earned his Master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology in 1996.
His excellent leadership skills and extensive knowledge in the field, partnered with his passion for service have led him to be a recipient of multiple awards from different organizations. He was awarded by the UP-PGH Department of Medicine Alumni Association with the Most Outstanding Researcher Award; DLSHSC CHIMES with the Award for Leadership in 2007; JCI with The Outstanding Filipino Physician Award in 2009; and PCCP with Most Outstanding Fellow in 2010.
Dr. Yu has been a member of the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) Governing Council for the last 10 years. He was a president of the Philippine College of Physicians (PCP), Philippine College of Chest Physicians (PCCP), and Chairman of Philippine Coalition Against Tuberculosis (PhilCAT).
